My sons Senior Gallery Challenge

My sons Senior Gallery Challenge

So the task of photoing your own child is just that… a task…why am I so critical of the gallery I produced of my own child? I am not done, was not able to capture all the backgrounds I want to include in his gallery, but none the less I am not enjoying viewing them as much as I do viewing the kids I photo that I don’t even know, is it that maybe I feel I haven’t captured the look I am so used to seeing? This is my first male gallery, and just pushes me to attempt to capture other males simply because I now feel a challenge to this task. There are many different back drops to Maui that can depict many different themes from country to tropics. Call me to inquire (808)276-1953 or visit my web page www.saphorephoto.com A Hui Hou!

Love seeing these old time cars that are kept in mint condition perfect for photographing and most fun while rolling down the street on a Saturday afternoon. Many of these people will rent out the car for your special day they drive of course but you ride and relish!

Had a fun time with Jacyrae, capturing her Senior Pictures in Kihei, on the southwest coast of Maui. We decided to capture her right where she stayed at the Menehune Shores Condo complex. We found lots of different areas to capture several different backdrops for her photo gallery. We ended the session on the beach capturing “The Walk”(something I love to do for a variety of reasons), sunset, and the water rolling up around her. Just love when my subject likes to do this! I really enjoy photographing Seniors and letting them be themselves it also test their abilities to show that they can carry themselves into adulthood. Photoing families opens the doors to repeat business, as we grow, fall in love, start our own families …….the circle of life. I have been having a lot of repeat business lately, Families that I photoed in years past and returning to the Hawaiian Islands for yet another memorable visit and portrait session. Thus the bases of my motto “Portraits are a reflection of memories”. I really love what I do and hope to provide professional photographic services for many more families, A Hui Hou….a hawaiian greeting meaning until we meet again!

WHAT TO WEAR
You have a closet full of clothes, but you’re not sure what you should wear for your portrait session. Well,
here are a few ideas that will help you choose the BEST clothes to wear in your Senior Portraits.

Choose a variety of outfits. It’s a good idea to include both casual and formal outfits in your senior portraits.
You choose a few, and let your mom choose a few, that way everyone is happy.

Your face should be the focal point of your portraits. Nuetral solids or very subtle prints are usually the most flattering in portraits.

Khaki and white, blue jean and white are the best, but any variation of blue, black, white, khaki works well
most of the backdrops will add the color vibrant florals, lush green foliage, blue skies and oceans, and various rainbowesque sunsets
Busy patterns and loud colors can be very distracting in your portraits. Avoid large & bold patterns that might tend to draw attention away from your face.
Traditional styles will stand the test of time and keep your portrait looking fresh for years to come.

Some poses will show your feet, so don’t forget to bring appropriate shoes for each outfit that you plan,
but also may be barefoot in the sand on the beach, choose your outfits accordingly

FINAL TIPS:

Simplicity is the key to a successful portrait.

Long sleeve dresses and shirts are recommended.

Coordinate your outfit from head to toe.

Darker clothes minimize body size.

Keep the tonal range of clothing in the same group,
To assure a successful portrait, it is best to bring along several additional clothing choices and let the photographer help you choose.

Don’t forget your jewelry, especially your class ring.

You should wear your hair in your regular style. Guys should NOT have a fresh haircut. If you need a trim, have it done about a week before
your portrait session.

Take exceptional care of your complexion for a week prior to your portrait session. DON”T use alcohol based skin products. Glycerin based
soaps are great for your skin.

Get a good night’s rest, relax and don’t be nervous. Your portrait session is going to be a fun experience!

PROPS CAN HELP to show your personality and record the types of activities you are involved in. Be sure to bring some of your own props to
your portrait session. Here are some ideas of what you might bring:

Musical Instrument

Leather Jacket

Letter Jacket

Uniform

Sports Equipment

Hats

Stuffed Animals

Favorite Pets (talk to me before hand about pets. some location I shoot in do not allow pets.

Maui's Munch Mobile

Maui's Munch Mobile

Just love the colors on this lunch wagon. Families enjoy many a meals on the go while visiting Maui,
there are lunch wagons and taco carts, Pizza ovens on wheels, we have them all! So when you are visiting Makena Beach or “Big Beach” as the locals call it or little beach where the nudies go, you don’t have to go far for a bite to eat, even though you are deep in the lava fields and kiawe trees. This somewhat desolate area is a very neat place to have some family portraits taken. The sunsets are awesome and the perfect setting for photos. Check out my galleries at www.saphorephoto.com located on Maui, Kihei/Wailea area. or call me to discuss your needs 808-276-1953

Senior Portraits can be a very exciting time in your life where you really get to express yourself
through your portraits. Bring out what says “all about me”, think of things that are your true passion
your flare, or goal in life and something that may reflect that image to others through your portraits.
I love having props or momentos that can help express your true desires. This post is going to be a
series of different Seniors and will post on consecutive days under this post so you will have to scroll to see the continuation of the variety of scenery captured on Maui by Sheryl Saphore Photography

Sarah and her Ukelele

Sarah and her Ukulele

Sarah was here visiting Maui and decided to have her Senior Portraits taken. We had a great time we did several dress changes for different looks and then she had brought along a special gift she received during this visit to Maui…her ukulele. I did some playing with the colors to make it look rustic, I’m really happy with the results. Sarah also brought her bongo drum, it was very fitting in the lava rock setting with splashing waves in the background. Check out the Senior Portraits Galleries www.saphorephoto.com

Wailele Farm-Twin Falls- Hike Maui

This is an easy Hike with several waterfalls available to swim in jump in and lounge at the waters edge. It is a short drive from Kahului to enjoy our lush tropical rain forest weather. Having said that be prepared for rain and rushing water falls. Guided Tours by Hike Maui are the best, guides are knowledgeable and friendly. Try a fresh fruit smoothie at the snack stand very yummy!

Some of the jumps are from high ledges best to “know before you go”, if you’re not sure then don’t jump it can be life threatening.

Captured a condo today. I like that my subjects change, keeps me challenged to my craft, which in turn leads to better knowledge of my passion. I love photography, have for many many years. I think I was 9 or 10 years old when I was given my first camera from my Dad a polariod, and my Mom a kodak instamatic, that took 110 film as I remember. Had a great time photoing my cousins with it and of course things around my Grandaddy’s farm the animals, the trees, and his bird dogs. Cameras have come a long way as well as my passion for this artistic profession I have found myself in. I most enjoy capturing children and families as well especially extended ones. It is so fascinating to see the similarities in the generations. I have a competitive rate for Reunion photography. Located on Maui Kihei Wailea area, small drive fee for west side Lahaina, Kaanapali, Napilii area $35 visit my website to view some galleries what is in the gallery is what gets burned to CD in Hi Resolution to make your own prints. www.saphorephoto.com 808-276-1953
