Here are a few Portrait Tips:
WHAT TO WEAR
You have a closet full of clothes, but you’re not sure what you should wear for your portrait session. Well,
here are a few ideas that will help you choose the BEST clothes to wear in your Senior Portraits.

Choose a variety of outfits. It’s a good idea to include both casual and formal outfits in your senior portraits.
You choose a few, and let your mom choose a few, that way everyone is happy.

Your face should be the focal point of your portraits. Nuetral solids or very subtle prints are usually the most flattering in portraits.

Khaki and white, blue jean and white are the best, but any variation of blue, black, white, khaki works well
most of the backdrops will add the color vibrant florals, lush green foliage, blue skies and oceans, and various rainbowesque sunsets
Busy patterns and loud colors can be very distracting in your portraits. Avoid large&bold; patterns that might tend to draw attention away from your face.
Traditional styles will stand the test of time and keep your portrait looking fresh for years to come.

Some poses will show your feet, so don’t forget to bring appropriate shoes for each outfit that you plan,
but also may be barefoot in the sand on the beach, choose your outfits accordingly

FINAL TIPS:

Simplicity is the key to a successful portrait.

Coordinate your outfit from head to toe.

Darker clothes minimize body size.

Keep the tonal range of clothing in the same group,
To assure a successful portrait, it is best to bring along several additional clothing choices and let the photographer help you choose.

Don’t forget your jewelry, especially your class ring.

You should wear your hair in your regular style. Guys should NOT have a fresh haircut. If you need a trim, have it done about a week before
your portrait session.

Take exceptional care of your complexion for a week prior to your portrait session. DON”T use alcohol based skin products. Glycerin based
soaps are great for your skin.

Get a good night’s rest, relax and don’t be nervous. Your portrait session is going to be a fun experience!

PROPS CAN HELP to show your personality and record the types of activities you are involved in. Be sure to bring some of your own props to
your portrait session. Here are some ideas of what you might bring:

Maui's Amazing Sunsets

Maui has some of the most beautiful sunsets, and is a perfect time to capture some of the wonderful memories that you may be celebrating while visiting Maui. Happy 25th anniversary Rosie and Jay!
Perfect weather, perfect tide, perfect sunset……We never know what colors the Maui sunset will present but almost always it’s something amazing….Vog is not our favorite weather to have in the air but the volcanic ash does do some magic with our colors! view more galleries www.saphorephoto.com

Wearing Glasses during Photo shoot

Sunday, June 20th, 2010
we wouldn't look the same without them!

we wouldn't look the same without them!

Had a session with this family recently, where they had been to a Wedding just prior to their family photo shoot and the photographer kept asking them to remove their glasses. This is just not Professional. A Professional Photographer really should be able to photograph you just as you are, after all, are your friends and family used to seeing you without your glasses on? While the photo grays are not my favorite, because they tend to turn dark from the flash, you are the customer, and if you would like your portraits taken with your glasses on, then the photographer should be able to capture you just that way, glasses on and no flash glare! This might be a good question to ask your photographer if you want to wear your glasses, ask for some sample images of people they have photoed with glasses on.

Family Portraits - Enjoyable experience

Bubble Fun

Bubble Fun

It is important to keep the photo session on a light note, this gives a more natural pleasing smile. To keep kids spirits up, I always keep them going with a promise of something fun at the end, jumping for joy “It’s Over”, Maui “Shaka’s” or perhaps bubbles. I feel it is important to have the experience be a positive one for children especially, bad photographer experiences make for life long anxiety at portrait time.
Family vacation portraits are a great way to keep those special family moments fresh in your mind.

Pre Photo Shoot Tips From Maui Photographer Sheryl Saphore

Friday, June 18th, 2010

A few things to keep in mind prior to your scheduled photo shoot:
*Cut your hair 2 weeks prior to shoot date, this allows for a more natural looking fresh cut.
*Stay out of sun 1 week prior to shoot, even the tannest of people tend to have a red
glow to them from the sun on shoot day. Also, ladies keep in mind what outfit you are
wearing in relationship to your bathing suit tan lines, neck strap lines will stick out
like a sore thumb when wearing a strapless shirt or dress on shoot day.
*Glasses- If you or someone in your family wears glasses, remember to bring your indoor
glasses to the shoot, Photo gray glasses will look like sunglasses due to the flash on
the camera. You should never be told to remove your glasses for a photo shoot…it’s
just not professional. I am a Professional and I can capture you with your glasses on
without picking up the the reflection in your lens.
*Make-up and sunscreen- do not use moisture based make up on shoot day you will have
shine spots on your face, instead use matte finish powder and no sunscreen, this too will
leave you with shine spots on nose, checks and forehead.

Aloha and Mahalo for visiting

Clothing Tips
Neutral colors works best, white, black, khaki, and blue jeans. These colors match even when the tone or hue is different. Neutral colors allow you to choose clothing from your exsisting wardrobe rather than buying new coordinating outfits. Patterns are not the best idea, as they can be distracting to the viewer, drawing the eye away from the intended focus/subject…… you! Solid colors are doable, know what matches your skin tones for best results. Coordinate your outfits all wear short sleeve or long, and shorts/skirts or all long pants.
